A warning issued by the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority on the misinformation being spread on social media regarding the quality of anti-HIV drugs.
In accordance with the authority granted by Proclamation No. 1112/2011, the Food and Drug Authority of Ethiopia regulates the quality and safety of food, the quality, safety and efficacy of medicines, and the appropriate use of medicines. Additionally, it has been granted the power to conduct product-focused research and control in any region of the nation.
Accordingly, strict quality and safety controls will be implemented on the product after it is distributed or imported into the nation to ensure that no products that pose a risk to the health of the society are imported. If they are inspected and prove to be problematic over time, they will be swiftly gathered and taken off the market.
However, recently, among the anti-HIV drugs on social media, TDF+3TC+DTG Batch No. e212494 and e212143 exp:08/2024 we heard and got some rumors say that those products have quality problems and the authority is collecting them from the market, so it is being recalled to users by the authorities to avoid using the drugs.
Yet, we would like to let you know that the medications do not have any quality issues and are not being gathered from the market.
As we remind you to use your medication properly and responsibly in accordance with the advice of medical professionals without being disturbed by false information spread on social media, we want you to understand that anti-HIV medications should be taken correctly without interruption to achieve the desired results.
